How to Override Extensions
TaskTracker allows extensions to be overridden for many types of tasks. This function can be useful for disaster relief on a local or national basis. If
you wish to enable this option, the following steps should be reviewed.
Firm Settings
- The adminstrator should go to the menu | Program Settings | Program Defaults |
- Check the box that says "Allow Extensions to be Overridden"
User Setting
- A user must have Administrator or Elite status
- User status is set by an administrator under | Program Settings | Users and Passwords |
- On each user's computer go to | Preferences | Use Default Extension Date |
- Make sure that preference is NOT checked!
Notes
- If overriding a due date that falls on a weekend or holiday, please still override to the normal due date (the
15th - NOT the 16th or 17th), to keep the filters and logic the same.
- Once the above is done a qualified user can access the override by using normal methods.
- Monthly and Quarterly Tasks cannot be overridden
Extending Multiple Returns
- All jobs must be the same type task and year-end (all 1040s or all 1065s)
- While holding the Shift Key, select the first job by clicking on the grey box to the far left of that job
- Move the arrow key down or select with a mouse-click up to 20 job of the same type
- Press the Extension Button on the toolbar
- Select the appropriate extension date or override it
Comments and Suggestions
Firms are not going to stop filing tax returns just because there is a delayed due date. Most returns will be filed as usual on
or before the normal due date. Rather than immediatly overriding due dates for every return, a practical approach is to continue as normal, returns will be
filed, some will be extended to the usual due dates. Once the due gets closer, then override those remaining returns as discussed above.
